I'm sorry I can't help Peter, but probably some of the answers to some of
his questions (& to mine) are in the user's manual. George T, what about
posting a scan of yours in this list's shared files?

you lucky man!

I never heard about... unless scaling down by multiple step-down rings, it
shouldn't be a problem to have one custom crafted...

it seems likely at first glance, but consider I own a 58mm f/2 lens, whose
filter gauge is 52mm but indeed the front element has just abt 29mm
diameter. Even with bigger front elements vignetting with add-ons depends
upon aperture angle-of-field and optical design. Front lens threads are just
intended to hold filters and each manufacturer chooses his standard gauge so
most of his lenses will share the same filter set (e.g. most Takumar's have
49mm thread gauge, Nikon's have 52mm, Hexanon's 55mm...)

The box of tri-delta (I saw a pic of it in an eBay ad) bears a drawing
showing the device mounted on a camera resembling a late1960es' RF.

Does anybody know what camera it was? Any lens or camera with the same focal
lenght should be OK. IMO a galileean camera will be prefrable. (less bulky
than a reflex!!!)
Indeed a reflex camera can be considered just if you need focal lenghts
different from the tri-delta's built-in angled finder (in this case you need
an angle-viewer or a pit finder) or you want to exploit TTL auto-exposure.
