This is fairly old news.  I believe Lucas has been saying this since
at least the release of Star Wars: Episode 1 in theaters if not before
then.

This is mostly about controlling costs (in my opinion at the expense
of quality).

Digital capture will look very different from film.  This is basically
video.  Think about the difference between the image qualilty of
daytime soap operas or game shows and most made for TV movies.  (These
examples were picked so that you could compare using the same viewing
method.  Comparing video viewed on TV to a theatrical film
presentation would obviously be unfair.)

The camera mentioned is a SONY HDTV camera with Panavision lenses.  By
the way, mentioning the cost of the cameras is kind of a strawman.
Besides the fact that costs in Hollywood are inflated to match shadey
accounting, just about everyone rents their cameras from (among
others) Panavision.
