[photo-3d] Slide Film Exposure

The discussions about lost vacation pictures rang a bell here. I had
used a Minolta SRT-101 back starting in 1975 that I bought new. My film
of choice was Kodachrome II ASA 25. For the first year or so the camera's
internal meter seemed to do OK. But then trouble started and I never
was totally satisfied with it. Underexposing by a half a stop or so would
help from time to time but there were always mistakes and problems that
lost pics I wanted.
Well... time moves on and the Minolta was parked for quite a while when
I moved into medium format in 1995. I also purchased a 4x5 at the time and
this camera required a hand-held meter. I got a Gossen Luna Pro. Best move
I ever made.
How does this relate to stereo? I use the PRO when I take the Minolta
out for slide-bar stuff. Dead-on accurate. The one underexposed shot I
got was when I used the camera's internal meter for comparison. I liked
the Gossen so much, I got a Super Pilot for the Realist 3.5 and included
a flash-shoe mount with it. That meter stays on the Realist unless I need
to use a flash. But the CDS cell meter works great for general stuff and
I don't have to worry about a battery running down. It has its limitations
in low-light situations and thats when the Luna Pro gets used.
I guess the only camera meter I trust now is the Pentax 645's internal
which is very accurate. The newer 35mm cameras also have some impressive
performance from the internal meters. The Canon Rebel comes to mind.
My 2 1/2 cents on meters. There has been quite a discussion of this on
the large format newsgroups if anyone is interested.
