[photo-3d] Re: Slide Films

For the person who was asking abut different slide films to use in the Realist format:
I hearily recommend Fuji's Velvia 50 ISO. There is no slide film with such
vibrant color. I expose it at 64 for better saturation, and if used with a
polarlizer (difficult for stereo) it makes it almost unfair. I used to think
most slide films were the same, but they're not. Kodak's 100 SW and VS are in
the ballpark, and Provia isn't bad, but Velvia wins hands down. Give it a try!
As for black and white slide films, go with Scala by Agfa. It is a variable
speed film, meaning you can rate it anywhere from 100-1600 so long as you
shoot the whole roll that way and notify the processor. Normally it's a 200
speed, and does very well, but I've shot it at 800 and had great results (long
tonal range, fine grain). In fact, I think it can handle a contrast range of
about 8-9 stops. I wouldn't advise shooting it in low contrast situations,
and always bracket your exposures.
As for porcessing, you have to send it to NYC or LA. I have mine done by
Duggal Color Projects in NYC. Each roll is $8, but add $2 if it's other than
200 ISO. They can FedEx 2-Day for an additional $7.50. Pack your film up and
send it to: Duggal Color Projects, attn: Scala Processing, 9 W 20th Street,
New York, NY 10011.
