Let me clarify a few things: I do not shoot Velvia as
ASA 40, but I have noticed that quite a few photographers
do, judging from the captions I read in photographic
magazines. I assume that their meters are accurate.
I don't use lightmeters often (especially now with my RBT S1).
When I did use a lightmeter (with my Realist), I ignored any
decimal parts and exposed to the nearest full f-stop. With
Velvia I usually went to the next f-stop up (more exposure).
When I bracket, I do so in full f-stops. So ASA 40 does not
mean anything to me. I also don't use tripods as I prefer
spontaneous hand-held snapshots.
"Perfect exposure" for me is a relative term as it depends
a lot on the viewing method. How are you viewing your stereo
slides? In a battery-operated viewer? What bulb, illumination
scheme do you use? Do you project? Some of the slides that
appear to be well-exposed in a hand-held halogenized viewer,
look too dark when projected (no all, some do, others don't).
