I disagree.  I've been using an Epson 1200 Photo Scanner and have had great
results with scanning negatives.  Do you have your scanner's exposure set
correctly?   My problem now is figuring out how produce scans of my slides
that are as sharp and clear as the scans I'm getting of negatives.  As far
as the Realist goes why not find a lab to process the negatives and return
them to you uncut, without making prints?  Then you can scan, crop, window
and enlarge to your heart's content.  The same thing goes for Nimslo negs,
although I've had no problem getting Nimslo prints done at local one hour
photo labs.

When I was shooting a lot of Loreo I had a hard time getting 3.5" prints
that didn't have about 1/4 of the left image cropped.  4 X 6 prints had more
of the image, but still some was missing. I thought it was a flaw in the
camera until I took a look at the negatives.   Even if I was using a Loreo
now I'd still want to scan and edit the images before having them printed.
