[photo-3d] Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day everyone.

I attended a Pre-Memorial Day Service held in the Vietnam Veterans Park
in Columbus, GA , on Saturday 27 May. We have a "Wall" with sculptures
of Infantrymen and the names of the 119 men from this area who were
killed in Vietnam. I have a small "connection" to this Monument as I
carried bricks for two days when it was being constructed. I also was
one of the speakers during the dedication ceremony. I think I was
selected for two reasons (a) I was in Vietnam a bit earlier than most
folks, 1962-63 (2) I am the only Vietnam vet (that they could locate)
whose son also served in Vietnam.

The speaker for Saturday's event was WWII Medal of Honor recipient Col
(ret) Robert Nett, who I flew almost daily during the first three months
of 1963 out of Danang,Vietnam. I had not seen him for a long time, so
before the service I went to him, reintroduced myself and we had a long
chat about "the good old days"

When he made his speech the first thing he said was " The only reason I
am here today is because of a pilot who is in the crowd. Where are you?"
I waved my hand and he asked me to come forward to the speaker stand. He
introduced me to the crowd and told me thanks for getting him back safely
to Danang every day. I replied " I was happy to get you home safely
every day , because that meant I got home safely also" I thought he was
going to cry and it was a very emotional moment for me.

I think there is at least one person (who lives north of the Mason-Dixon
Line and is not a veteran) who is getting ready to send me a message
asking what has this to do with Photo 3-D? I am getting to that so be
patient ------.

I have started a collection of stereographs of Vietnam
Memorials/Monuments and have received quite a few from friends in New
York, California, Minnesota, Oregon, Wisconsin and Australia (I find the
Australian Monument quite appealing as it has a full sized helicopter
etched into one wall) Of course I have stereographed the Washington DC
Vietnam Memorial. But I would like very much to have many more of these
stereographs. If there is a Vietnam Memorial/Monument in your area I
would appreciate a stereo of it. I prefer stereo cards, but any format is
suitable.

The unit I was with in Vietnam during my 2d tour has a fine web site and
I have put about 30 or so of my pictures (nonstereo, sorry) on this
website. If you would like to check it out go to
