Because it's WAY COOL... Also using a scanner to create an image is quite
unlike conventional photography - while there certainly are limitations
there are also some unique capabilities - If the scanner has a high
resolution you can zoom way close in - you get your results immediately and
can keep experimenting. (also true of a digital camera)  I also think
there's something to be said for the challenge of creating a successful pair
within the scanner's limitations.   I've posted an example of an image I
created on my Epson 1200 to the Photo3D files:
