[photo-3d] Solvents

Can anyone recommend a good solvent to use on camera shutters?  I have 
benzene, but I'm told it's about as lethal as anything one can still buy over 
the counter.

Also, is there a source for tiny screws, springs, etc.?  Any stereo camera 
parts still out there???
