Sorry Ron, but the system does provide the password if you are a new
subscriber to eGroups and you subscribe by email, rather than by logging
onto the web site. You can then log on to the website and change your
password if you wish.
The system message includes something like the following (group, passwords
etc are changed:
P.S. If you would like to learn more about the XYZ group,
please visit http://www.egroups.com/group/xyz and
enter the following sign-in information:
Email address: aaa@xxxxxxx
Password: abcxyz
This is your initial passwird.
There still seemed to be many list members that were not familiar with the
'FILES' feature available on this list. Below is a brief description on how
to access the Files section of the Sell-3d list via the 'mygroups' web page.
A similar procedure applies for any of the other eGroups list to which you
might belong.
All members are permitted to go to the files section of the Photo-3D group
as well as many of the other eGroups mail list such as 3D-Salon, where the
moderator has not disabled access to the files area.
Perhaps the simplest procedure is as follows:
First log on to: http://www.egroups.com/mygroups where you can see the
status of all of the groups that you belong to.
If you have not been to the eGroup website before and/or if you have lost
your password you will either have to go to the 'Click here to register for
FREE!' or to the 'If you cannot recall your password, click here' areas
before you have a password that will then take you to all the messages and
files of all the eGroups mail list that you have joined. This might include
Photo-3D, Sell-3D, 3Dsalon, Tech-3D, Macro-3D, ST-3D and several others that
might include your local stereo club.
When you have your password sorted out then just left click onto the
Photo-3D Group and access the Files section. You will of course need to
click the selected folder to gain access to the files in that folder. Just
right click on the selected file and left click on the 'save target as'.
Omit the part
to gain access to the folder if the file you want is not in a folder. All
this will be a lot simpler when you are in the Photo-3D files area.
Uploading files is also a very simple procedure.
While you are in the files section why not download the Sep99 sample issue
of '3D Window', it is well worth a read.
