Dan,

Did you buy the scanner with the LightLid, or was it an accessory?

Is there some sort of interlock that turns off the bed scan light
when the lid scan light is on?

I assume that it scans at the max resolution of the scanner,
600 or 1200 dpi?

Would you try an experiment for me? Try scanning a roll of negs,
color or B&W, and then inverse them. I know the color will not
turn out great in this simple test but a more thorough procedure
could be used if the test looks promising. I would love to have
online contact sheets of my negs. Perhaps make a PDF of them
when I got them all scanned.

See http://www.interlog.com/~pinkster/photo/neg2pos/neg2posa.html
to see how to convert color negs to positives. This really works,
I've done it a bunch of times. Only problem is that he gives
directions for an older version of PhotoShop. The same functions
are still available but you will have to look around for them.
