One cheapo solution (forgive me if this is duplicate information) is the
dedicated Primefim 1800u slide/negative scanner from Pacific Image
Electronics.  It includes software. Uses USB. Company info at
www.scanace.com -- Best price I know of from Outpost at www.outpost.com--
$200 which includes delivery overnight. It's very small-- sits on top of
my vertically stacked IBM. If you're a pro, you need more resolution, but
for standard home use, tough to beat, and works on positives or negatives.
