[photo-3d] Mount on the go!

There used to be a time when DrT would tell us stories about
shooting and viewing stereo pictures while driving to Detroit
for the monthly club meeting. Someone once asked, "What's
next, George...stereo *mounting* while driving?" (Sorry,
I can't find the post to credit the humorist.)

Well thanks to a really cool device I just received late
yesterday evening, stereo mounting on the go is now a
realistic possibility! Yup, there is now a new ultra-thin
(1/2 inch) CCFL light pad that measures a mere 4-5/8 x 4-1/8--
fits in an average-sized hand!

The light pad produces very high quality light in a 1-1/2 x
3-1/2 area--perfect for backlighting a pair of 2x2 slides,
or a single mounted stereo slide.* The light pad weighs
less than 5.5 ounces with batteries installed. And it is
even bright enough to backlight a stereo slide inside a
car at 2PM on a brilliantly sunny Texas summer afternoon!

But wait! That's not all! :-)

The lighted area of the pad has a roughly 2-inch by 4-inch
"well" that exactly fits the width of an RBT or Spicer stereo
mount, or a pair of 2x2 mounts. This well is covered by a
flip-up clear plastic cover. When the cover is down, it
holds the slide(s) nicely in place. That means the light
pad could also be used to display a favorite slide on a
table, desk, or wall, for freeviewing or viewing with a
steal-the-light viewer. (The light pad will accept an
external a/c adapter to save batteries.)

I'll be bringing a demo unit (or more) of this light pad to
Mesa. Be sure to stop by and check it out, or write to
mailto:info@xxxxxxxxx for more information.

And now DrT can push his Detroit slide prep procrastination
to new extremes by mounting in the car (*preferably* while
Jim drives for him!)

* 7P and wider R-mount stereo pairs will have a small unlit
area at the edges, although twin 2x2 slides will be fully lit.
