The 3D refers to the target. Instead of the normal "flat" 
bulls eye target, 3D targets are full sized animals. You know -
 a "real" deer or bear or fox or rabbit, etc. They truly are 
3D as they have depth as well as height and width *{;-)

This is probably more than you want to know but here goes:

These 3D targets are usually set up in a real world 
environment such as a forest. You know - hide the deer behind 
a tree or the cougar on a rock outcrop. The participant then 
is timed as they follow a set path and shoot the targets as 
they see them. It is analogous to firearms matches where the 
participant is run through a simulated "street" environment.

Now to keep this on 3D track - maybe we could set something 
like this up at NSA. Grab your stereo camera and run an 
obstacle course while shooting designated images. At the end 
you get your film developed and then are timed mounting it. 
You final score would be a combination of the time for the 
shoot, the time for the mounting, and the accuracy and quality 
of the images.
