The idea of using a sound-activated trigger to photograph lightning 
reminds me of an addendum to a biology slide show I saw in college.  
The presenter showed his "After the Lightning" pictures at the end of 
his presentaion.  He stood on a bluff and watched for lightning and
as 
soon as he saw it he clicked the shutter.

What is the speed if light again?  What is the duration of a flash?

When the clap of thunder comes rolling along, we'll click the
shutter.  
I like that idea - reminds me of how administrative policies are set
