Why?  What is the advantage of having these lists combined?

A lot of P3d members were on "sleep" mode (postpone) where
they did not receive any message and were not even aware
they were subscribed in p3d.  By switching to egroups
these members did not even realize what happened.

The number of people who actively read and post in p3d
does not look to have changed.
