This won't be the first time. There were holographic foil stamps
issued in 1989. I have one in front of me, which depicts a radial
space station with a docked space shuttle.

Perhaps "stamp" is the wrong word. A one-inch square hole was die-cut
from a business-sized envelope, and the foil image was glued in from
behind. "USA 29" is printed in green next to the hologram in
"futuristic" digital lettering.

After eleven years, the colors are still vibrant. The 3D effect is
subtle, but nice. I look forward to the new holographic stamps.
