[photo-3d] Re: Realist Print Processing

I've been following the discussion of Realist prints/labs with interest. I
have found a lab, Hooper Camera's North Hollywood location, that has done a
good job for me. First let me say they have a couple older gentlemen on
staff who truly know and appreciate photography. I've only met one of their
printers, but she was knowledable and up for the challenge. Now whenever I
bring in a roll I include a sample, untrimed 3.5 x 5 inch print along with
instructions I've printed out and mounted on the back of the sample print.
I've been consistently pleased with the results.
Someone mentioned that even when the negative is centered in the 8 perf
holder you will get inconsistent results owing to the fact the the adjacent
exposures from you left chip are not the same as the adjacent exposures from
the right, thus shifting the processor's automatic exposure control. This is
definitely the case and this has caused the biggest problems for me. If I'm
shooting something important I will shoot it three of four times in a row
thus insuring that all the adjacent frames for that "must have" shot are
basically the same in terms of the exposure. That is, if I take four shots
of my daughter sitting on the porch swing I know the adjacent frames will all
have basically the same exposure values/densities. It's not perfect, but
it's better than going from the porch shot (open shade) to,say, a shot in
full sun with a lighter subject, etc.
Good luck.
