Well, this is one of those posts I have to agree and disagree with.
No human is capable of perfection at anything. Good mounting is
certainly a goal, and most of us are capable of better than we deliver,
but...
Personally, considering the deterioration of commercially available
mounts and mounting services, I find the 2x2x2 idea more and more
appealing. The current thread of processing pain inclines me more and
more to a unified full frame stereo camera; but considering the cost of
RBTs (and the lack of competition), this would require
self-construction. Perhaps digital cameras are really the way to go, but
I have much experience with digitalism, and don't have a lot of
confidence in that yet either. Still, simultaneous exposure and
single-strip processing seem imperative, given the human tendency to
variation.
But my own observation is that stereoscopy has survived almost two
centuries of predominantly bad mounting. This situation will continue.
I'm not saying I LIKE it, but like bad government, it ain't the end of
the world. (Not that it isn't painful, tragic and infuriating!)

P.S. Ah, never mind, my further comments are off-topic and distracting.
I should either stop rambling or stop editing!
