[photo-3d] Getting closer with mirrors

I do most of my shooting with a twin SLR rig, mostly because I enjoy varying the lens seperation depending on subject. One limitation has been the inability to get the lenses closer than 3.5 inches, even with one camera mounted upside down, one behind the other etc. To overcome this I bought two front surface mirrors from American Science Surplus, attached them to a block, put the mirrors in between the two cameras at a 45 degree angle to each camera and pointed the cameras at each other. The result is an effective lens seperation of about 1". This opens up a whole new realm of close-ups - I've posted two pairs I've taken this way to the files section:

I think I'll have to build a bar especially for this setup with the mirrors permanently attached. Alignment seems especially critical, as does keeping the cameras level. Jim Harp
