[photo-3d] RC Twin XA2

I want to twin a pair of XA2's and I have a couple of questions:

1. Are XA2's similar enough to XA's that the XA twinning instructions
will work?

2. Ultimately, I'd like to do wide baseline stereo with this pair
fired using a radio control transmitter and a pair of receivers.
I'm not really very "up" on radio control devices. I was wondering
about getting a couple of the Radio Shack toy r/c cars and stripping 
out the guts (because they're cheap). I suspect however they wouldn't 
have the range (I'm thinking of up to 500 ft as a working number that
should suffice for most situations).

Does any one know what the range of these toy cars is? Does anyone
have suggestions for alternative (inexpensive) r/c equipment that
would suit to get me started. I just need a single switch closure, I 
think ... at least to start with. I wouldn't worry too much initially 
about having one camera set the exposure for both.
