[photo-3d] Custom Realist

I am shopping for a Custom Realist 2.8. What guidelines can the group
offer for checking authenticity, quality, etc. Is there a way to 'check'
a serial number that is advertised with the camera? These cameras are
very expensive and I want to be as certain as possible that a purchase
will be 'solid'.

Is this the right forum to ask such a Q?
