I occasionally use K64 with my twin SLRs. It's certainly sharp, but to my
eyes it looks like a hand tinted black and white image. For scenics I find
this to be a pleasing quality - it reminds me of vintage VM reels. I also
have run a lot of Kodacrome 200 through my Nimslo. The exposures are
generally spot on. Someone once mentioned on this list that even though
Kodachrome 200 is grainy, it still seems extremely sharp. Although that
sounds like a contradiction I agree with that observation. I have the
Kodachrome processing done at A&I - I've always gotten great results there.
Like others I've started using ProviaF 100. I just sent in a roll of
ProviaF that I shot in the Nimslo with instructions to push process one
stop. Although I agree that it's only a matter of time before Kodachrome is
discontinued, I think that slide film in some form will be available for the
foreseeable future. Consumers replace their computers and VCRs pretty
regularly, but someone with an expensive SLR will keep using it for years.
There will also be a continuing worldwide demand for slide film since
digital cameras won't catch on as quickly in some markets. I imagine that
within a few years slide film might become a special order item and thus be
more expensive. Jim Harp
