Re: [photo-3d] Heat Seal

The reason I asked in the first place is that the qustion was raised (in
regard to the new heat seals being developed by RMM) as to whether it is
important (i.e. an "essential feature") for the new heat seals to have
the ability to hold the chips without the use of tape. Thanks to the
many who responded to what turned out to be an informal poll, and sorry
if the discussion is getting tiresome.
I for one am very pleased that Paul Talbot is working on getting some
improved stereo heat seals (and self stick mounts) on the market, and I
hope that there will eventually be other size options (especially 4p and
7p, and maybe reduced width 5p and full frame.) It seems unusual these
days for anyone to be trying to not only preserve but improve stereo
related products. I liked the samples that he made available at the
convention (and by mail for those of us who did not make it there). The
new mounts do have the advantage of guides for positioning the chips (so
easier to use than a Spicer) but without the "tab" impressions that
allow the light leakage in the old heat seals. In the new RMM mounts,
there is a cutout in the adhesive layer which creates the outline for
chip poitioning, so the adhesive does not underly the edge of the chip
to allow the "tacking" procedure decribed by many users. The mounts also
have nice clean apertures IMO and good light opacity. I personally like
the new mounts, and do not consider the inability to use them without
taping the chips in position to be a drawback. Thanks Paul! -Linda
