Thanks Jon for the interesting audio aside. I played guitar for years,
and during the 80's I was buying up everyone's Electro-Harmonix pedals (
mainly Small Clone chorus and Electric Mistress flangers) Players were
happy to give them away in favor of a new ADA digital rack unit or some
such thing. I've made $$ back selling these pedals and kept a few for
myself. Nothing sounds better than these guys in line with my stereo
Marshall 50w tube amp.
Same thing can be said for film. The pros are shooting slides. A pro
told me " prints are for weddings and family gatherings period! All
other work should be transparencies" And how many digital images were
used in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit layout Ron? How many rolls of
print film were used? If digital cameras get better there advertising
slogan will be " amazing images that have the look of film".
I did an A-B comparison for my brother. I have a near virgin vinyl
record of Def Leopard, and the CD. I played the same track while
switching my receiver input between turntable and CD player. Volume gain
was closely matched. The LP won hands down. CD's give the impression of
superior sound due to the absence of mechanical noise found with LP's. I
still favor many older technologies due to quality superiority, not
convenience. Mark Dottle
