[photo-3d] Re: logic (was heat seal vs spicer vs RBT, now vs alum/glass!)

In Digest #228 George writes, in part:

<<... I noticed a discrepancy in your logic. On one hand
you stress convenience and things like reusability, and
on the other hand you mention works of art. Usually these
 two are incompatible... >>

Why? Must art be inconvenient or impractical?

George continues:

<< The reusable plastic snap-together
frames would not appear to be the best material to frame
 everlasting works of art. >>>

Why not, apart from the aesthetics that you critique in your next paragraph?

<<... The thing that bothers me
about RBTs is that the black and white pieces do not
 match perfectly... >>

If any random black half doesn't match acceptably with any random
white half, set either one of those pieces aside and try another. These
are mass produced moulded parts that must have some tolerance for
variations (Jon: any specs on this?)... the worst fit comes with one half
at the max and the other at the min spec.

<<... the perpetual argument if the white should
be in the front or the back >>

Plus you can mount all black or all white, if you wish. Whatever looks best
to you. For a viewer it won't matter at all, but in projection, though, it
is usual
to have the white part face the lamp(s) and the black part face the lens(es).

I've been known to do this, too.
