I will tell you the story behind my three award-winning
entries in OSPS Tuesday night. We start with "A Fine
View", taken at Grand Canyon AZ.

In our way out of the Grand Canyon I was stopping in
just about every scenic stop to check the view and
possibly take a couple of pictures. In one of the
last stops I saw this attractive lady and I wanted
to put her in the picture. You see I am convinced
that the human element gives a sense of scale and
enhances these scenic shots.

The problem is, I am a bit shy and could not ask her
to pose for me (basically stay still and look into
the scene) so I was sneaking, waiting for the right
moment to snap the picture unnoticed. Did anyone say
"model release" forms? :) :) :)

It was not working out, but finally she sat on a rock
with her male partner. I knew I had a small window of
opportunity so I snapped the picture while I could,
with my RBT S1. It turned out very well. She is looking
at him, he is looking at the Grand Canyon. They wear
matching orange outfits, a nice contrast to the overall
bluish of the scene. A few rocks in the foreground and,
of course, the magnificent Grand Canyon at a distance.

Originally, I had this mounted in a 31.5mm RBT mount and
it looked great in my Van Ekeren viewer. However, when
I saw it projected at the NY Stereoscopic Society (this
was one of the slides I showed at the NSSS meeting in
July) I realized that the scene was a bit too far behind
the window. So I remounted it in a 7p mount (which is
more comfortably handled in most stereo projectors) and
pulled the scene closer to the window by bringing the
film chips closer to each other.

Overall, "a fine view". In my opinion the best of my 3
entries, got 3rd place. One judge said that the picture
was so sharp than you could see depth in the distant
background! (I can only thank the RBT S1 for this....)

I plan to enter this in PSA Salons. As I've told you
DrDave, I use the local club as a testing grounds for
selecting PSA Salon entries!
