I think you must also take into consideration how good each part of the
CD Player is. Quite a few inexpensive CD players do not have great
quality filters, amplification, drive and laser tracking systems. This is
why many CD Players sound terrible compared to the sound quality of a top
quality turntable and amplifier system. I have listened to 20 year old
systems, intelligently designed and installed the proper way, and they
blow virtually every CD system I have ever listened to. But all of that
comes at  a price. Also, at a commitment. To be fair, there are CD
systems that are vastly superior to many old style (analog) systems
