Who's 2-step process are you talking about? Here is my opinion - partly
based on experience. When a film is designed, the chemistry is designed
to process it. Deviation from what the manufacturer recommends can often
create problems. Not always, but sometimes.

I will assume that if you compound a chemistry to sell, your R&D efforts
would turn up potential problems. So to answer the above question, all I
can say is that it depends. Not every breakthrough is for the better -
for example, Dye Transfer Prints Vs everything else.
