Actualy there should be a mounting screw for the shoe, there is a kind of a
clip in the bottom of the shoe which can be slid out. the screw is under
that and it also makes the electrical contact for hot shoe surround to the
metal body of the camera. I tried glue when I first had this problem before
I discoverd the screw but it was not permanent and did not cure the poor
electrical contact due to the loose screw, in fact I think it made it worse
by acting as an insulator. As far as can remember I probably partly created
the problem myself by trying to remove the top of the camera before
realised this srew was there which has to be removed first, although there
must have already been a problem for me to want to do this anyway. I wrote
about this experience in the Third Dimension Society bulletin which is UK
based but also has an American distribution and does back copies, I would
have to check for the actual issue. I do not think you realy need to
replace the clip afterwards if you have a problem doing so none of my 3
still have it.

The second edition of The Book of the Nimslo published by Reel 3d
Enterprises included the service manual intended for the repair engineers
but I am not shure if its still available from them or still in print.
