Sure.  Less than a year ago, Scientific American put an image on it's 
cover of a US astronaut looking out the window of the Soviet space 
station Mir.  The astronaut's face was simply composited on top if the 
Mir photo.  The editor published a "clarification" the following 
month.  

Struck me as odd, since I can tell you from my work on Madison Avenue 
that nearly every picture you see in magazines is digitally retouched 
in one way or another.  Usually it's minor, but it's common.
