I also remember reading John's name from his involvement in stereo 
movies during the early 80's.  In particular, a rather intriquing 
article on 3D special effects in an old issue of Starlog. He appeared 
to be showcasing a front projetion system that showed people being 
composited into stereo backgrounds. The article had a number of 
stereoviews that were really cool - woman appearing to hand feed a 
giant cat, kid in superman t-shirt and cape flying over a hyperstereo 
of NY etc.
