This sounds like it could have been written by me. I bought a Realist 45 as
my first stereo camera. Got about 6 rolls thru it before it quit while on
vacation....the shutter button shaft slipped past its lever. I bought Jess
Powell's videos and fixed it, but not before buying three Realists (all of
these one ebay by the way). One needed only an adjustment of the
rangefinder (my sister got that one), but the second (listed as excellent
mechananically by the seller) had a broken shutter blade, and the third one
had unequal apertures--1 stop off from each other-- as well as a film
advance problem. With a few parts, though, all is well. But some of those
tiny screws are a real pain!
Then I bought a Wirgin. And that one has a problem too. The little shutter
cocking sprocket allows the film to ride over it, thus allowing film to
advance too far before the shutter cocks and advance locks. Anyone know how
to fix this?
At any rate, some of the older cameras do have problems due to age and
neglect.
Now I've bought a Fed. The jury's still out, so to speak, on this camera.
My first roll only yielded ONE properly exposed stereo pair out of 20 shots.
I'm taking a second roll to make sure I didn't bump the thing off of
automatic by accident, causing overexposure....but then, some of the shots
were badly *underexposed* too! I'll know more when I get my film developed
Wed.
LORD, please give me money for an RBT!!! (Do I hear some Amens?)
Best regards,
Mike Galazin
