I would like to second the comment about the internet having an impact.

That's how I discovered all of this! :)
If it wasn't for the internet I don't think I would have been given enough
bread crumbs to follow. My motivation increased as I found out more and i'm
not sure my initial interest (when I really knew nothing almost 2 years ago)
would have got me into the library to do any research. And of course now i'm
hooked.
