Specifically, this is to Bob Weir but it should be of great interest to
others like myself who have only just now come to know the full capabilities
of the Fuji FRONTIER Digital Mini-lab.
Bob, can you find a mini-lab in your area which has taken the plunge and
installed the above digital equipment? Fuji say that you only need to call
them and they will advise the nearest location.
Much has been said on this List about the quality of prints so produced from
slides at much reduced prices than previously, but the story is even better
than that. In your case, take your Nimslo pairs, either in the film strip
or mounted in 2 X 2 mounts, to the mini-lab Forget about masks. The lab
operator will scan the images and crop/mask on screen to suit your Nimslo or
any other format. Following that, you can have prints made to your own
requirements OR simply receive the scanned and cropped/masked images on
floppy or CD from which you can go straight to work with them in your own
computer, all first generation - no losses. If you must, simply place your
mask into the 2 X 2 mount with the film chips.
Because there are a couple more important tips, contact me off List and we
can kick this stuff around a little.
