[photo-3d] 2d video to 3d = garbage that does a disservice to stereoscopy?

Why the hell would anyone want a device to convert 2d video into "3d?"
Sounds revolting because obviously there isn't enough data contained in 2d 
video to provide a real stereoscopic effect.

I've never seen the results of such a conversion, but imagine they must be 
terrible; and if that's a person's first exposure to "3d" video, my only 
guess is that this would only serve to further the disinterest in 
stereoscopy among the public at large.

Has anyone ever written to one of these companies and say, hey, are you 
*really* interested in furthering the cause of 3d, or is your purpose to 
hammer-in the final nail of the 3d coffin?
