I believe new technology is required. Theater owners simply will not stand
for having to pay for dual projectors, two sets of prints and the need to
distribute glasses, polarized or especially LCD. There was technology
available to present movies with excellent stereo soundtracks back in the
30s. I believe Disney actually exhibited "Fantasia" with a stereo
soundtrack in a few specially equipped theaters in 1937. At the time
stereophonic technology was expensive and cumbersome, and thus not practical
to use for mass distribution. Sound familiar? Here's another way to look
at the technology question. Does anyone out there think that in the year
2050 popular entertainment (virtual reality etc.) and personal imaging
devices won't include stereoscopic technology? Jim Harp
