My sincere thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. I've printed
out and filed all the responses, and will keep Photo-3d posted as to how I
proceed and how things work out. Any and all insights are appreciated. I'm
really surprised and pleased at how many people have hopped in on this and
provided me the benefit of their expertise.

Amen! And you haven't mentioned the cost of one's own time, if one
considers it to have value! What is the social cost (to one's family,
friends and community) of spending hours at a terminal retouching a photo?
More useful than watching television, but a time-sink nonetheless. How many
of us punch a time-card when sitting down at a computer, and punch out at
bedtime? It would be a revalation.
