Actually I went through a French company (www.gandi.net) that only 
charges 12 Euro dollars (about $9.00 US) per year and only one year at 
a time. No problems and it was relatively fast.

You can go to any of the register sites and do a search to see if a 
domain name is available.

By the way mine is <www.dddphotography.com>
