You definitely don't have to fake them.  I have a few stereocards of
the full Moon.

Stereo iamges of the Moon are possible due to a wobble (known as
libration) in the Moon's orbit.  We don't always see the exact same
side of the Moon, but it doesn't change much.  By taking shots on
different months (with different librations) you get an effect similar
to a still life taken on a turn table (with the turn table moved
slightly between shots).  The Moon's libration can be found in
observing guides in various astronomy magazines.  Sky & Telescope in
particular has a nice calendar in each issue showing the Moon's
libration (and other events that month).  The biggest problem is that
you need a focal length of around 2000mm in order to fill a 35mm
frame.  This usually means a telescope with a good equatorial mount.
