Yes, you have to open them up and do a little sottering.  I don't 
know if this technique will work on the Ricoh Point-and-shoots, but 
if the shutter assembly looks the same it might be worth trying as 
long as you don't mind risking the camera.  (Probably voids the 
warranty too...)  I've posted stereo views of this operation being 
done on one of Sheldon's XR-10Ms in the P3D files:
