Not sure what the official definition of close up is... but
what was meant by the previous posting is "close focusing".
The Realist can focus as close as 2 1/2 feet, which is quite
close.

I was recently sent slides from a Kodak stereo camera
where the opposite was true, at infinity one of the two
chips was out of focus while at close ups you could not
see a difference.

I am sure it is possible to adjust the lenses and eliminate
this problem, but I don't know how.
