Answers have been given that some named movies were shown
polarized,
but certainly some other movies were in black-and-white and
eventually (also) shown with anaplyph projection, among which
"The Creature from the Black Lagoon". See the "defintive" book
on 3-D movies up to 1989:

"3-D Movies : A History and Filmography of Stereoscopic Cinema"
by R.M. Hayes, McFarland & Comp., Jefferson and London 1989,
reprint 1998. ISBN 0786405783. 430 pages, $30.
