Practical application (IMO)
Hyperfocal settings / DOE are a beautiful thing, Use it when it is
appropriate and to your advantage!

SET AND FORGET - For most shots Set to f-stop to get max depth for the
entire scene then forget if light conditions remain the same. If the scene
is very important to you, shot 3 shots with different combinations.

WHEN THE RANGEFINDER IS INDISPENSABLE - When you are interested in and
specific object, focus on it using the rangefinder (especially is adjusted
by the tanker) and shoot at the smallest f-stop and slowest shutter
combination you determine you can live with. If you don't have a
rangefinder, learn to estimate distances, it is not hard to have a pretty
accurate eyeball rangefinder.
