To see something like this with the Realist's etc. 35mm
FL lenses you need an aperture of f4 or wider.  At f16
(which seems to be a favorite aperture for many people)
focusing at a fixed distances of 15ft will work fine for
most practical outdoors situations.

There are two situations where I would change this:

1) If there is nothing really close to the camera then
I would focus further and even at infinity.

2) In a close-up of a person etc. without infinity, I
would focus at the main subject.
