I bought a Holmes-style replica kit from Reel 3-D Enterprises, Inc. for
$39.95 plus shipping. It assembled very easily. The tools needed are a
small Phillips screwdriver (inexpensive set at Radio Shack), a tack
hammer and some sandpaper. Everything is precut, the instructions are
very clear, and I put it together in about an hour. To my eyes, the
results are excellent. It contains prismatic, high quality plastic
lenses. My grandsons love it. There are others on the market that are
more expensive, although perhaps better crafted and may have better
optics. I live in an area where there are many antiques dealers but find
that the original ones have become very expensive. In comparison, I
consider mine to be attractive, relatively inexpensive, and it does the
job.
Reel 3-D has a description in their catalog at http://www.reel3d@xxxxxxx.
