The fading problem (often called "orange shift") on the 870/1270
printers is thought to be an ink/paper/environment interaction.

Epson has stopped distributing one of the papers that was originally
intended for the 870/1270. For several reasons (including not owning
one of these printers) I have not kept up to date on the 870/1270
problems. I don't think Epson has come up with a final solution for
this problem on these printers.

By the way, ink/paper interactions are very important with inkjet
printers. The results you get with ink set A on paper 1 will not have
any bearing on the results you get with ink set A on paper 2. This
means that you can not expect to "proof" with cheap paper and get the
same results you when you switch to the expensive paper. It also
means the permanence of ink set A and paper 1 has no relation to the
permanence of ink set A and paper 2. It may be good enough, but it
won't be the same.
