HOW TO GET YOUR WAY AROUND THE FILES SECTION OF E-GROUP MAILING LISTS
It can be daunting and confusing to many, especially if you haven't spent
time exploring all this website stuff like finding files that have been
posted by mailing list members, but here is a primer. If you plan to post a
file to any of the "home" pages of any mailing list, always copy the DIRECT
LINK to that file, as a matter of courtesy and to save time and aggravation
for the people that would like to go there immediately without wasting time
browsing through their computer files.
Pictures are posted on the E-Groups Website, depending on which of the
specific mailing lists the person has posted them. (3DSalon, SSA, photo-3d,
etc.)
If you have not explored the "files" section of discussion lists, you are
in for a treat, many people post interesting pictures and other documents
on the "Files" section of each mailing list.
Here is the direct link to some recent pictures:
http://www.egroups.com/files/StereoscopicSocietyofAmerica/Shahrokh+Dabiri/
But after seeing this person's pictures, go to the general file section and
visit others:
http://www.egroups.com/files/StereoscopicSocietyofAmerica/
And once you have seen those, visit the files section of 3DSalon (or any
other mailing list administered by E-Groups) with other pictures and
documents:
http://www.egroups.com/files/3Dsalon/
Here is a hint: Look at the URL above, this section
<http://www.egroups.com/files/> will always be the same, so if you are not
sure about where to find files and you just received your daily digest from
one of this mailing lists, just copy the sample I gave here, append to it
the name of the mailing list, for example <Cascade-SC> to get
<http://www.egroups.com/files/Cascade-SC> then copy this and plug it into
your browser and you will be taken to the file section of that mailing list.
Now, what happens if when you go there, you can't see the files?
There may be several reasons for that:
1. The "list" is restricted only to signed-up members and you are not
signed up for that list. The solution - sign up, it's free.
2. You get to the "Files" section but there are no picture files to look at
- the reason, no one has posted (uploaded) files to this list.
3. You can find the general "Files" section, but there are too many folders
and files. The solution - look carefully for the name of the person or file
who announced his pictures then click on that name.
