I guess I have to confess here that was my quote - not too
many Harley riders that have mortgaged their house for an RBT.

I was using a Realist Red Button viewer modified by Dr. T. to
view 7p with a frosted halogen bulb. I had also had the
opportunity to view many 35mm images with the DeWijs Combi
viewer (although I have never owned one).
There is no comparison between 35mm and MF. Everything that is
good in 35mm is better in MF - sharpness (lack of grain),
tonality, size, "immersiveness", etc. The step up to MF is
significant. Is it more significant than the step up in 35mm
from a bad plastic steal-the-light-viewer to a quality
achromat viewer? That's a hard one to answer because that is
also a significant step. Of course the same can be said for MF
viewers.
Now to qualify all this - a good 35mm can be significantly
better that a bad MF. A Realist can take excellent images
equal to or better than an RBT. It is all relative and depends
on so many factors.
That's all for now,
