SPIE Convention, San Jose, Stereoscopic displays, looking for a
correspondent
Hello,
I am a French journalist, member of ISU, working at present on the subject
of stereoscopic displays. The Electronic Imaging 2001 Convention, Photonics
West, held at San Jose (California) 22-24 January, is very important for me,
but unfortunately I can't go there.
I'm looking urgently for somebody who could go there for two missions :
1. Collect the proceedings of the 11 sessions 22-23-24 January, Conv. Ctr.
Room J1 (mainly, but not only, about autostereoscopic displays), as well as
the CD-ROM concerning the conferences of the previous years.
2. Chiefly, attend the Hardware Demonstrations (Session 11), Wed. 24 January
2:30 to 5:00, Conv. Ctr. J4, produce a complete report with photos, and
express an opinion about the visual quality of the devices shown.
I have two aims :
1. Answer the following question : is there at last an autostereoscopic
display (i.e. without glasses) at the same time large (e.g. 50"), sharp,
bright, to be watched by several people, without crosshatching or other
unacceptable defects ?
2. Collect as many technical data as possible, even on devices which don't
meet the fore-mentioned requirements. Each sheet will specify :
- the technique (parallax barrier, lenticular, Fresnel...), number of images
(2, 4, 8...), head tracking or not, effect of depth (10" , 50", 30 ft...) ;
- the name of the laboratory or the factory with the e-mail of the person in
charge, the web...
- a photo (or illustrated documents), preferably 3D, preferably with an
element showing the scale, e.g. a person.
Of course, I will pay for the expenses caused by this work : travel,
registration, copies, CD-ROM, photos, etc. All this is open to discussion.
Speaking French would be an advantage, but not an obligation.
Thank you in advance !
